Even large national and even international companies need to ensure that their workforce, both as a whole and individually too, are engaged, dedicated and productive. It is logical, therefore, to make sure your senior heads of department as well as individual managers are aware of this ethos and when a long-serving employee announces their retirement, they need to be recognized. With that all being said and done, here are some excellent retirement gift ideas for long-serving employees from their employers.

A Paid Vacation

Now, obviously, if your company is on the larger side and essentially, if you were to offer a huge and expensive payout to every single employee who decides to retire, then you would be bankrupt within a year, this first suggestion may not be appropriate.

However, for smaller companies, or indeed as a standard for employees who have been working for your company for at least, say, forty years or more, you could consider surprising them with a paid vacation.

Furthermore, you could pass a pot around the office for contributions towards your hardworking employee’s spending money on their trip, resulting in the company and ex-colleagues all helping the VIP make new memories and enjoy new experiences.

Becoming Quite Literally Part of the Furniture

If you are the owner or manager of a theatre or movie theatre, for example, and your soon-to-be retiring employee has been guiding members of the public and new members of staff alike around the building, then this next idea may well be the one.

Regularly, theatre seating and other items of furniture are reworked or replaced and if the retirement date coincides with such a renovation, then why not look into how to inscribe a brick or dedication plaque on the back of one of the chairs?

A Lifestyle or Gymnasium Membership

For those employees who have vocally shared how much they are looking forward to having more time each and every day to dedicate to physical or outdoor pursuits, then perhaps a practical and thoughtful gift such as a lifestyle or gym membership would be best.

It is possible that your business already has a health and fitness sponsorship program in existence for employees, so an extension of this would be a whole-year subscription to get them fit and healthy in their retirement year.

Alternatively, you could instead purchase a block of classes in a specific area, such as yoga, Pilates or Zumba, with a view to both helping your retiring employee to keep fit and healthy physically, as well as helping to expand their social circle.

A Surprise Retirement Party

Finally, along with the obligatory extra-large ‘Sorry You Are Leaving’ card, what better way to celebrate this new phase of life than a surprise retirement party!

You could choose to be as ostentatious, or indeed sophisticated, as you would like and order printed faces of your employee for everyone to wear when the surprise is unveiled, or instead to host a delicious buffer party instead.

These were some retirement gift ideas for your long-serving employees. This would boost the overall morale of your existing employees and create a good image for your company.
